ACS 9.1 Edition System Requirements

ACS 9.1 is designed for computers running Windows 2000 or later. The following system requirements are based on past client experience and current ACS Technologies testing.

Please keep in mind that systems meeting the minimum requirements will perform noticeably slower than systems meeting or exceeding the recommended specifications. When purchasing new equipment, hardware and software meeting or exceeding the recommended specifications generally have longer productive life spans than hardware and software meeting the minimum requirements. Computers at the lower end of the spectrum are generally more appropriate for looking up information while computers at the higher end are more appropriate for entering data and printing reports. Additionally, we recommend purchasing hardware and software designed for a business environment instead of for the home.

Printers
ACS Technologies recommends using a tray-fed laser printer. ACS is compatible with laser and inkjet printers, if driver support is available for the associated operating system. We do not recommend specific printers, nor do we guarantee that all printers will work with ACS.

Video and Sound Cards
ACS requires at least 2 MB of video memory.

ACS Technologies recommends a 17-inch monitor with the ability to view a minimum screen resolution of 800 x 600 for all ACS modules. Larger resolutions are the choice of the viewer and are not known to have a negative effect on program operation.

Internet Considerations & Browsers
As ACS Technologies moves more of our products and services to the Web, we recommend a high speed Internet connection. While an Internet connection is not required for using the basic features of the ACS desktop products, some features are not available without an Internet connection. These features include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Access ACS™
  • ACS Sync
  • Downloading product upgrades and revisions
  • Downloading tax updates
  • ACS LiveStor™
  • CASS It!/MAX It!® upgrades

ACS Technologies requires that Internet Explorer® 6.0 or later be installed to view Help in ACS. However, Internet Explorer is not required to be the default browser.

Wireless Networks
ACS 9.1 can function properly in a wireless network environment. However, due to the wide variance of connection speeds, the performance and reliability of the ACS software can be negatively affected. ACS Technologies recommends that you contact ACS Professional Services to make sure that your wireless network is configured for optimal ACS functionality.

Network Requirements
ACS can be installed and operated on a dedicated server, or on a peer-to-peer network. ACS Technologies does not recommend Internet-based servers, nor do we support them.

These specifications were last updated December 2007 and are subject to change.
